Holes (1998) by Louis Sachar won the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award. Stanley Yelnats, wrongly convicted of stealing a pair of sneakers, is sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile detention camp in a dried-up lake in Texas, where boys must dig a hole every day. Louis Sachar was born in 1954 in New York and later worked as a lawyer before writing full time. He is also known for the funny Wayside School books. He has said the hot Texas summers helped inspire the setting of Holes.路易斯·薩奇爾 1954 年生於紐約，在全職寫作之前當過律師。他也以幽默的《歪歪路小學》系列聞名。他說過，德州炎熱的夏天啟發了《Holes》的場景。
